Is your business moving forward or are you worried about the empire you’ve built crumbling around you?
In my five-plus years in the online industry, I’ve watched as multiple business owners hit the “stuck” phase in their businesses. This is the point where they’ve become an expert at their craft, so much an expert in fact that they have found themselves at capacity. In reality, even one more client would break them.
Of course, from here, there’s no way to scale. So then the question becomes, How do I move to the next level?
The answer is always the same. Every business I analyze they are missing one (or more) key pieces of what I call the Expandable Impact Formula. The good news is that once these pieces are in place, your business can grow exponentially without you being tied to your phone 24/7.
So what are the three keys to expanded impact?
Key #1 - Scalable Foundation
The first key to expanded impact is to set up a scalable foundation in your business. By foundation, I mean the core systems within your business. It’s where the key systems in your business are developed with both short-term results and long-term goals in mind.
Too often online business owners set up their foundational systems as band-aids, and they become temporary fixes. Unfortunately, this also leads to temporary growth and creates a vicious cycle of overwhelming for a business owner.
What are the key systems in your business?
Basically, anything that is a foundational system in your business including:
Project Management
Communication
Information Management
Client Management
We want these systems set up to serve us efficiently not only where we are now, but also so that they will expand to include our future goals as well.
Key #2 - The Fully Leveraged Dream Team
The fully leveraged dream team allows you to move to the next level, without taking on all the work yourself. One of the biggest mistakes I see in online businesses is the super common, fractional team member. These are the team members that you bring in part-time, that divide their time between multiple businesses.
Before I ruffle too many feathers with this topic, I will say that there is a time and a place for these “fractional” team members. However, there are also multiple positions that should not be considered fractional. Your virtual assistant is one of the first ones that come to mind.
Instead of a “fractional” team, your business should be composed of team members who have bought into your dream. They should be hired not only to fill a current hole but also for longevity with your business. A fractional team will always result in fractional growth. Hire with both your present and future business in mind.
Key #3 - Sustainable Growth Framework
The final key to expandable impact is to create a framework for sustainable growth. Too often we run our businesses like a full-time side hustle rather than the true companies that they are. It’s time to start looking at your business with ten years from now in mind. No more band-aid solutions for us.
Instead, we create the culture and strategy that will keep your business moving forward indefinitely WITHOUT everything hinging on your 24/7 involvement. We want to create cultures & strategies that are built for long-term success AND create an environment that is proactive instead of reactive. This is the secret to not only creating a sustainable business but also building a team that wants to stick around.
So there you have three keys to expanding your impact. Where are you falling short?
